Curricular Changes, 2009-2010
To Students in the Advertising Sequence within the Journalism Major:
The Department of Communication and Journalism is phasing out the advertising sequence within the journalism major over the next two years. Your options depend on your status in the sequence.
The following information applies only to students in the advertising sequence in the journalism major, not to students in the news-editorial or broadcast journalism sequences, or to mass communication and communication majors.
Please find which of the following two categories describes your progress within the advertising sequence and read carefully:
- IF YOU HAVE COMPLETED CMJ 250: INTRODUCTION TO ADVERTISING WITH A C-MINUS OR BETTER IN SPRING 2009 OR BEFORE, YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FINISH THE ADVERTISING SEQUENCE:
All advertising courses beyond CMJ 250 will be offered within the next two years. Although we are planning to have adequate spaces available, the department cannot guarantee seats in these courses after they have filled. It is your responsibility to meet with your adviser, register for courses on time, and successfully complete coursework.

Fall 2009: | CMJ 355: Advertising Copy and Graphics

| CMJ 380: Advertising, Media and Society |
|
Spring 2010: | CMJ 459: Advertising Campaigns |

Fall 2010: | CMJ 355: Advertising Copy and Graphics

| CMJ 356: Advertising Media

Spring, 2011: | CMJ 459: Advertising Campaigns

Fall 2010 or Spring 2011: | CMJ 380: Advertising, Media and Society |
CMJ 355, 356 and 459 will not be offered after Spring 2011. CMJ 380 will continue to be offered once a year as a course in the mass communication major.
- IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED CMJ 250 WITH A C-MINUS OR BETTER:
CMJ 250: Introduction to Advertising will not be offered again. You have the option of following other requirements for the journalism major, or you will need to change your major to mass communication, communication or another major. You will not have the opportunity to complete the advertising sequence.
